What are Atenolol tablets?

Atenolol tablets are a medication that belong to a group called beta-blockers, used to treat high blood pressure and heart problems such as uneven heartbeat and angina. If you buy Atenolol tablets online, or from your local GP, they will slow down your heart rate which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around the body and therefore lowering blood pressure.

Some people may find that Atenolol tablets can cause slight dizziness, if this is the case take Atenolol tablets before bed. Always complete the full course of treatment you have been prescribed as suddenly stopping the medication can cause your condition to worsen.

High blood pressure rarely has noticeable symptoms, and if left untreated greatly increases the risk of stroke and heart attack. High blood pressure occurs for a variety of reasons including genetic predispositions, weight and old age. Medication such as Atenolol tablets may be prescribed to help reduce high blood pressure and therefore reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.

If you buy Atenolol tablets they should be taken daily with water, there are a variety of dosages but the standard starting dose is between 50-100mg a day. This may be different depending on your circumstances, it’s important to always follow what your doctor has prescribed. Atenolol tablets will be most effective in combination with a healthy diet and exercise as this will naturally reduce your blood pressure.

Atenolol is sometimes referred to by its brand name Tenormin.

If Atenolol tablets are not effective there are other medications for high blood pressure. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist to find the best solution for you. You can buy Atenolol tablets online from e-Surgery with a quick health questionnaire or alternatively use our free Ask a Pharmacist service to find the right medication for you if you are unsure.

How to take Atenolol tablets?

Whenever you buy Atenolol tablets online, or from your local pharmacy, take one daily with water as your doctor has prescribed. The first pill may make you feel dizzy and some people find taking it before bed is a good way to avoid this. The dizziness should subside, if you find it is not a problem for you, you may take it any time during the day.

Try to take each tablet at the same time each day.

If you forget to take a tablet take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearer to the time you would take your next dose wait and take it then. Do not take two Atenolol tablets at once.

Continue to take Atenolol tablets until your doctor says otherwise, even if you start to feel better. If you feel like the Atenolol tablets are not working or you are experiencing unmanageable side effects speak to your Doctor or pharmacist about changing medication or dosage.

The dosage you are given will depend on your medical condition and response to treatment. It may take 1-2 weeks to get the full benefits of Atenolol tablets.
