What are Rosuvastatin tablets?

Rosuvastatin tablets belong to a group of medication called statins. These are used to lower high cholesterol which can cause problems such as heart disease and stroke. Rosuvastatin tablets lower lipids known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood and is intended for use in people who struggle to lower their cholesterol with diet and exercise alone.

Eventually, the build-up of bad cholesterol can lead to a narrowing of the arteries. This narrowing can slow or block blood flow to vital organs such as the heart and brain. This blocking of blood flow can result in a heart attack or stroke.

Cholesterol plays an important role in how our bodies function, and we all require a certain amount of good cholesterol. It is made naturally in our liver but is also found in some foods such as milk, cheese, butter and processed meats. Too much cholesterol can lead to clogged arteries which can cause heart disease, which is the largest cause of death in the UK. Triggers of high Cholesterol include:

  • A diet high in saturated fats
  • Smoking
  • Suffering from diabetes
  • A family history of high cholesterol or heart disease
  • Lack of exercise
  • Obesity

High Cholesterol levels can cause many further health complications, so is best lowered and managed. Rosuvastatin tablets are a good way for many people to do this in combination with lifestyle changes such as healthy eating and exercise. It is available to order from e-Surgery in 10mg, 20mg and 40mg. Your dosage will depend on what your doctor or pharmacist has prescribed. The usual starting dose for Simvastatin tablets is 10mg or 20mg but will vary depending on your requirements. Remember Rosuvastatin tablets will be most effective if taken with a healthy diet and exercise.
