Xenical should be taken with a well-balanced calorie-controlled diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables and contains an average of 30% of the calories from fat.

You usually take one capsule at breakfast time, lunchtime and dinner time. To gain the optimal benefit, avoid the intake of food containing fat between meals. If you miss a meal or your meal contains no fat you will not need to take a Xenical capsule. Your doctor or prescriber will likely issue 12 weeks’ worth of tablets or until you have lost 5% of your body weight, as long as you are following a balanced diet and staying active.

• Headaches
• Abdominal pain
• Urgent need to open bowels
• Oily discharge
• Liquid stools
• Low blood sugar levels
• Upper respiratory infections

It is common for people to feel some of these side effects with in the first few weeks of taking Xenical capsules or after particularly fatty means. They generally disappear or reduce the longer you are on the medication, and following a set diet with the correct amount of fat should also help. • Iodine or levothyroxine.
• Amiodarone.
• Medicines to treat HIV, such as retrovirals.
• Medicines for depression and other psychiatric problems.

Xenical capsules may unbalance an anticonvulsant treatment, by decreasing the absorption of antiepileptic drugs, thus leading to convulsions. Please contact your doctor if you think that the frequency and/or severity of the convulsions have changed when taking Xenical together with antiepileptic drugs.

Xenical capsules are not recommended to be used whilst taking acarbose (an anti-diabetic drug). Please read the Xenical capsule online Patient Information Leaflet for more information.

Xenical capsules can reduce the absorption of some fat soluble nutrients in particular beta-carotin and vitamin E, so you may also be advised to take a multivitamin supplement whilst taking Xenical capsules.

You should not take Xenical capsules if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients
• You have chronic malabsorption syndrome
• You have cholestasis
• You are breastfeeding

Xenical capsules are not intended for those who are not obese and should be taken with the supervision of a doctor or pharmacist.
